Newbie needing help!

Good evening,
My wife bought me the Davis vantage vue this christmas. It works great and I'm really enjoying it. Unfortunately it appears i made the rookie mistake of setting weatherlink up with USB connection rather than a serial.
I have a good connection with the USB though using an old laptop, however,
I'm really fed up with weatherlink. It's basic, online content i find very limited with no graphs / historical data. Just 24 hour max / mins.
Most annoyingly of all however, is the fact i paid over £20 for the privilege of uploading my data to the web. The compatibility with other programmes is non existent, I can easily link to wunderground but i find the interface and unit measurements frustrating! And that's it!
I want to upload to UKMO WOW but am not able to, PWS, also not able to. Iv'e not even looked into setting up my own site yet as I'm guessing this will be equally as frustrating.
So my main issues are:-
Running cumulus requires a serial port, which i assume means removing and restarting weatherlink so, will i lose all the data iv'e collected already? (Iv'e downloaded the converter and tried the ports but its not working!)
Can i save my data so far without it being deleted when i remove weatherlink?
I'm a bit of a technophobe when it comes to computers so go easy on me!
You may have guessed i'm frustrated with weatherlink so any help would be really massively appreciated!

You don't need to remove Weatherlink, you just need to switch to using a virtual serial port. This will work for both Weatherlink and Cumulus (don't try to run both at the same time). See the FAQ -

Thanks for your reply Steve, appreciated.
Unfortunately no joy. Followed through the FAQ. It seemed promising, windows asked me to reinsert the weatherlink disc. It seemed to be attempting and i was becoming hopeful but the same problem arose.
Weatherlink cannot find COM port. I ran the test and it just can't find it. I tried manually looking in the drivers and there isn't even a ports section in the drivers list (windows 8.1). Only USB Express from silicon labs.
I have attempted to contact davis support numerous times now with no response.
It's all very frustrating!

This is even after running the 'convert USB to virtual serial' utility? If that's the case then I think only Davis, or someone else who has been through this process, can help.

Thanks again for your quick response.
Here's a grab of the error.

Problem solved.
Started again from scratch. I'm so pleased!
Is there a way of now importing the weatherlink data obtained so far into cumulus?
Thanks for a great peice of software!

I wrote a converter, it's in the 'sticky' thread in this section of the forum. It seems to do a reasonable job.

Hi again!
I'd just like to say thanks for the great software.
It runs so well now and the wealth of data is unreal.
I do still have one minor problem which is probably my fault!
My NOAA report has an error.
The other data is fine and is being collected properly, when i check my monthly stats through cumulus software all is correct. However, when i check the NOAA for feb. I have duplicate lines.
Iv'e screen grabbed the error because i don't have a clue where to start with editing it!

Any help appreciated as always.
Paul.

The real problem is in dayfile.txt, the NOAA report just gets its data from there. If you zip up the diags folder and attach it to a reply, I'll take a look.

Really appreciated.

I can't see any problems in there, Cumulus isn't writing those duplicate entries in dayfile.txt. Have you added entries to it yourself? How do you come to have entries in the NOAA report (and hence in dayfile.txt, presumably) for days that haven't happened yet? Are they from the converter? You could just delete them (make sure you delete the invalid ones).

Cheers Steve,
Maybe it was from the converter. I must have attempted to convert the whole month whilst only being part way through.
Iv'e deleted the bad entries and it's updated fine now and the future dates have gone.
Thanks again for your time.
Paul.
