Basic Web Hosting Question
Posted: Fri 06 Feb 2015 1:22 am
Hello,
I am trying to get my Davis Vantage Pro info online. I have read the Help sections and the FAQ for Cumulus and think i have a basic understanding. I called Arvixe to buy a domain name and some hosting to get the project started. I explained my noob-ness to them and what i was trying to do, and read them this section of requirements from the Simple Website Setup page of the wiki
From your webspace provider you will be given:
FTP server name
Port
username
password
webspace folder / directory
They asked me a few questions that i didn't kn ow the answer to, such as:
Do i need a Linux or an ASP environment?
What "Port" is referenced in the above quote from the Simple Website Page of the wiki?
Are there any particular modules required?
I've tried to find the answers to these questions in the forums and wiki but dont' feel confident enough to go ahead and spend the cash on domain and hosting. Could anyone please steer me in the right direction?
thanks
and fwiw - i love the software and will make a donation once i get it up on the web
