Cumulus slow start
Ever since I installed Windows 8.1 Cumulus has been slow to start and download readings from weather station. I have formatted my hard disk twice and the problem persists. I am running 64bit windows 8.1 pro with 8gb of ram and a 500gb SSD. My SSD has heaps of spare space. Under windows 7, the download was almost instant (using an old fashioned hard drive). Any suggestions?

Re: Cumulus slow start
I can't see any sign of any slow startup, it's reading data within a few seconds of being started. Presumably the delay is before Cumulus starts, i.e. between you clicking the shortcut and Cumulus being started by Windows. I run Cumulus on 64-bit Windows 8.1 and don't get any delay before it starts. Perhaps you have anti-virus installed and it's doing some kind of check. How long is it between you double-clicking the shortcut and the Cumulus window (and the 'downloading data' box) appearing?

Re: Cumulus slow start
Hi Steve
I have set cumulus to run at startup. The main problem is the length of time it takes to download the latest data, no matter how large or small the data might be.

So 18 & 17 seconds for start to closing the "Please Wait" message after it has finished the download on the last two runs.
If that isn't what you are seeing, maybe the OS is running *really* slowly?

And most of that time is taken up by logging in the realtime ftp connection. How long is it taking from your point of view?

Re: Cumulus slow start
OS seems to be running normally - i.e. quite fast. Maybe it is something I will just have to wear.

Re: Cumulus slow start
What antivirus are you running?
Windows Defender will often take a long time to check an exe before allowing it to run.
Once the exe has been checked, the next start should be faster, for a few hours, and then its back to a slow check again.
