The new Raspberry Pi 2 came out today, more ram, faster processor etc. same price $35.00 USD as previous versions. Element14 sold out quickly. I went ahead and ordered it, will be back in stock in 2 weeks. It is quite faster and better than the older models. Microsoft is going to run a version of Windows 10 on it and Linux also will run on it. Will have to see if Cumulus on Windows runs on it. Then the Linux version Steve is working on.
You can read about it here:

Read about Windows 10 on it here: http://www.theverge.com/2015/2/2/796217 ... windows-10

Re: New Raspberry Pi 2
If you mean Cumulus v1, I can tell you that now - it won't. Cumulus is compiled for x86.sperry russ wrote:Will have to see if Cumulus on Windows runs on it.

No, I meant the new version you are working on, Cumulus MX.

Re: New Raspberry Pi 2
Another interesting very small form factor ARM-based computer is the Odroid U3. http://ameridroid.com/t/single-board-computers or http://www.hardkernel.com/main/main.php.
It is more powerful than any of the PI's (though a bit more expensive) and has 2 GB RAM. It can run Linux or Android from flash or eMMC media. They recently came out with the C1 model which is around $35.00 USD and has a 1.5 Ghz CPU with 1 Gb RAM.
There is even a weather board for them: http://ameridroid.com/products/weather-board
I bought a U3 a few months back and have been very surprised by its capabilities--especially the fact that it can display HD video at 1920x1080p without dropping frames and run a full blown Linux desktop. I've used it primarily for my aircraft ADS-B tracking but eventually hope to try Cumulus 3 on it. The most power it has ever drawn is 5 watts with 3 being more typical.
Fun stuff!

Re: New Raspberry Pi 2
Yes, there are so many types of these boards it get confusing sometimes. My main interest at this time is running cumulus on it instead of a laptop or desktop computer.
On another note. Flightradar24 has locations listed on their website where they will lend the ADS-B equipment to a person if their site meets their requirements. I applied and received the equipment from Germany and now have it installed where I live in Central Florida. They say that the equipment costs around 800.00 dollars so I was surprised that they would do this.

Same here.
After I did a site survey, FR24 sent me their FR24 (BeagleBone) dedicated receiver as well. Works very well. I'm able to receive planes out over 230 miles away.
