Yesterdays max rain same as todays, but not rained today!

I just realised my max rain today is saying the same as yesterday. The graph "Total Rain Fall" shows a continuous line from yesterday 08:30am to now. However, If I use "Select a graph" and view only today it says no rain. But, if I look at 2 days graph or 24hour the line is constant again.
This is very confusing as rain rate says nothing has fallen since 08:30 yesterday morning. And yes my station is set to roll over at midnight. And it is only a couple of weeks old, so not our eight legged beasties.

Any idea if it could have been my NTP server changing the time before midnight that caused this?

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Larry

Quite possibly. It's only recently that I've realised that computers adjusting their clocks close to midnight may cause problems with the daily stats. Any adjustment which moves the clock across midnight will mess up the stats.

It's possible that Cumulus didn't do the midnight rollover as the clock was never actually at midnight. If that is the problem, one way to recover would be to stop Cumulus, and use the files from the most recent backup set before midnight (just copy them into the data folder). Cumulus should then download the data since then and do the midnight rollover at the appropriate point.

If you could zip up your diags folder I'll have a look and see what happened.

Thanks, I'll have a look. I may have been editing my reply while you were reading it - adding a bit more info.

When you started it up at 0145, it processed the data up to that point, and did the midnight rollover, but it didn't manage to write today.ini to remember where it had got up to. The diags file ends strangely, it indicates that Cumulus didn't close properly - it would normally write today.ini at closedown. Did it crash when you ran it at 0145?

When you then ran it again at 0941 it started processing again from just before midnight because taht was the last time in today.ini, so you now have two entries for yesterday in dayfile.txt, and yesterday's and today's data have become muddled.

Restarting from the backup that was taken when you started at 0145 should fix the problem, but I don't know why it didn't close down properly at that time - can you shed any light on that?

I think it was still running when I closed down for some sleep. So windows closed it.

And help there?

In theory it ought to close down properly when that happens, but maybe Windows didn't give it chance. Do you use the 'confirm on close' option? I suspect that probably stops it closing down properly if the close down is as a result of Windows closing.

Don't know that one.

Just use shut down from start menu.

Does it pop up an 'are you sure' box when you close it?

Steve, my windows just logs off then shuts down.

Should I have confirm on then?

No, I mean, Cumulus. There's an option to get it to confirm when you close it.

Better to leave it off if you're happy with it that way; I don't have it switched on - less likely to cause problems.

Oh! by the way I've used your "replacing the backups" trick and it's worked a treat with no lost data.

Thanks again.
