Cumulus Support

I am running a Davis weather station up in the mountains of Norway at my cabin which is connected to my home server running Cumulus. The station is connected to my server via a 3g GSM router hence it is not as quick and stable as via LAN. It works fine though but to update weatherlink I need to use the "discon. period" option. Cumulus seem to struggle for 10-15 sec. to re-establish the connection every minute. Would it be possible to add an option here where we can choose how frequent we want to disconnect the PWS? Say every 1-60min?

That might be possible in a future version of Cumulus MX, yes.

Thanks! Looking forward to it! Even though I set the discon. period to 0, the PWS will try to upload data to weatherlink but the discon. time is then far less than if I enter a specific period. If we could get Davis Instruments to make a firmware for their weatherlink IP featuring the option of disabling this function it would have been perfect at least for some of us weather freaks.

Do you mean disabling the uploads to weatherlink.com? You can disable those via the WLIP browser interface.

I am not actually aware of that. Nice for those who don't use WL. I would prefer to have an option in Cumulus as described in my first post since I use both Cumulus and WL.

Can you explain why using Weatherlink means you can't disable the uploads to weatherlink.com?

My cabin is on a 12V system and therefore I cannot run a computer 24/7 up there. I therefore have to connect the PWS to my server via this GSM router with a poor 3G signal. This is a rather unstable connection so I download the data from weatherlink.com to the weatherlink software to keep a flawless database. I know this is a poor excuse for not turning off the upload cause I can DL the data directly from the PWS. But, another issue is that quite a few people are using the weatherlink app to check the weather at my PWS location. I guess I can get people to only use the cumulus iPhone interface or the stainless steel gauge also works on iphone/ipad etc.... Have to discuss this with myself.

How do you actually switch of the upload. Is there en option in the weatherlink software?

Oh I see, I thought that you wanted to disable the upload (from you comment about the firmware). I did not realise that you were using the uploaded data. As I said, you disable it using the logger's browser interface (i.e. you put the logger's IP address into your browser). The instructions should mention this, but it appears they do not.

Have to try the browser interface from the internal network this weekend I guess cause I am not able to get a response via http from the outside via port 22222. Maybe it is a router issue. Cumulus connects fine.....

I think it's on port 80.

In that case I have to forward port 80 to WLIP's internal IP address. Thanks for the advice!

I'm quite envious. It hardly ever snows here.

This is at 584m altitude. Here in the lowlands at the vest cost there is not much snow either. Up there it is about 1,5m now...
