Swapping from WMR88 to Davis Vantage Vue

Hi everyone,
I've been using Cumulus for a couple of years now, getting its data from an Oregon Scientific WMR88. I've had untold problems with the wireless link from the wind and rain sensors, to the point I'm going to replace the WMR88 with a Davis Vantage Vue with a USB datalogger.

My question is how to changeover the station in Cumulus without losing the last 2 years' data. I'm hoping it's just a case of unplugging the WMR88, plugging in and connecting to the virtual serial port for the VV, reconfiguring the station type in Cumulus and away we go!

I suspect it isn't going to be that easy though :D

Any advice gratefully received!

Cheers
...Steve

Yes, that's pretty much it. You may get a glitch with today's rainfall that needs correcting. To make the changeover smoother, you could edit Cumulus.ini to change the station type instead of confusing it by changing it while Cumulus is running. In the [Station] section set Type=1 and set Port= to the number of the virtual serial port that the Davis drivers create.

Wow! Thank you Steve :P

I'll report back once I've done the deed (might be a couple of weeks away).

Cheers

Hi Steve,

Nearly right mate!

Took a while, but eventually found that the VP Type needed to be set to serial in the Station configuration page. Then it burst into life :D
Now for a bit of fine tuning and hopefully this will sit there and bubble away for years (not like the damned WMR88!).

Thanks heaps - and Cumulus is FAR FAR better than WeatherLink :D

Cheers
