Davis and gusts

Post by Adrian Hudson »

Steve,

Way back in 2013 you added this to the program:

"For Davis stations, read the high gust value from the console once a minute, in case the high value was missed during normal reading. Note that this only works for midnight start of day configurations, the console can't supply the correct figure for 0900 start of day."

Could you explain it a little more please. I do 0900 start of day so it interests me. I don't understand the fact that it only works for midnight start of day confgs. Surely the console knows nothing of when Cumulus does its resets.

Thanks

The figure the console supplies is today's high gust. The console only works on midnight-midnight days.

Steve, is that restriction of the DLL? With MX the LOOP2 packet contains the 10 min high gust so that could be used instead? - reverting to daily hi if LOOP2 is disabled.

Oh no! That sounds like a feature suggestion for MX! :bash: As you were

I'm not sure what you mean. The fact that the console only works on midnight-midnight days, so that's the only figure available, isn't a restriction of the DLL.

Yes, I'm already doing that in MX.
- reverting to daily hi if LOOP2 is disabled.
Currently it just reverts to the 'old' situation where it relies on the wind speed figures read from the LOOP data. Reading LOOP data directly means far fewer packets are missed than with the DLL anyway.

I meant that the 10 min gust value isn't available when using the DLL.

Not in the version that Cumulus 1 has to use, no.

Ahh, "today's" high gust. That makes sense then.
