How much disk space does Cumulus use?

Post by Mitch »

hi,
I have a ssd as drive C: on my computer and it is filling up quite fast. I see that cumulus needs to be installed on this drive. How much space does it take? Can the data produced by the logger be stored on another drive?
Many thanks Mitch

My Cumulus installation is currently at about 160 megabytes after eight years of logging, mostly at 5 minute intervals. The data itself is about half of that, I probably have quite a bit of extra stuff in there.

Cumulus doesn't have to be installed on the C: drive, though, it can be installed on any drive.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I am sure I read in the read the text at the start of the setup that it needed to go on drive C: or it may not work. If I can install it on a second drive I will have no problems.

There should just be warning about the Program Files hierarchy, and suggesting C:\Cumulus as an example. If anything says that it has to be on the C: drive, it's wrong.

Only what's in this post - https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11876

Not much more to say than that, really. I have about 15-20 people using it so far. All seem happy.

Hi Steve,
I have got Cumulus up and running and have imported my data from weatherlink using your WL convertor. This seemed to work well but I could not find a dayfile.txt in the Cumulus data folder? I assumed this is because the program had not rolled over at midnight yet so I just copied the dayfile.txt file in the convertor into the Cumulus data file. It put in a lot of data to the end of the month which I deleted. The file now looks like the attached file. Is this correct ? Will the program just add another line for the 7/1/15 at midnight?

That's a bit odd; a glitch in the converter possibly.

Looks OK from a quick glance. You could look at it in the dayfile.txt editor in Cumulus to see if the values look sensible.

Yes, it should do.

Yes it looks fine in the dayfile editor. I also added the data from the jan15log file in the WLconverter to the jan15log file in the Cumulus data file - looks OK.
