Can Cumulus and Cumulus MX run on the same machine looking at the same Weather Station?

Not at the same time, no, not without something in the middle handling the multiple connections, such as Virtual VP for Davis stations.

I have VP2 but had shelved VVP a few years back. I have just downloaded the most recent version from SoftWX (I have a license key) and hopefully will get enough nerve later to run and try it with Cumulus 1 and CumulusMX.not without something in the middle handling the multiple connections, such as Virtual VP for Davis stations

Presumably VVP only works with Davis Stations?

Yes, VVP is only for Davis, and currently on hold due to issue with new Davis firmware.
