Windiest Day Query - Longest Wind Run

Post by Paul C »

Hi and a Happy New Year to everyone !!

I am just compiling my end of year reports but I have been asked a question and cant find the answer

"What was your windiest day"

This is not the Max Gust, but the day of the year the wind blew its strongest all day long

Any thoughts on where I can find the data and the answer

Thanks

Not quite what you are asking but, there is a tag for it:

$WX['YearWindH'] 9.9
$WX['YearWindHD'] 02 January
$WX['YearWindHT'] 03:24

Those are 'Saratoga' tags ...

Wouldn't it be what you have already - Highest Daily Wind Run ?

I'd go with the greatest daily wind run too.

If you implemented the DayFile Reader https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=11397 on your site it is very easy to see the day with longest wind run.

Mine was December 17th http://www.dmjsystems.co.uk/weather/dayfilerdr.php

Thanks for the replies ?

The link - https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=11397

Thats looks hard to install, mention of php and my knees go wobbly

SO just to confirm without me installing anything else, " longest wind run" is not recorded within Cumulus

Not for a particular year, no. You can look at the last daily backup of the year.ini file for last year (which is now unfortunately on the last but one day) as long as you do it before 10 days have elapsed, and that will show you the highest wind run for the year and the day it occurred, unless it happened to be the 31st December (but you could look at the entry for 31st December in dayfile.txt in the dayfile.txt editor just to check, if you thought it might have been).

Alternatively, you could take a copy of dayfile.txt, delete all of the entries apart from those for last year, and load that into Excel and sort on the windrun column.

Tks

I think it will be in February ?

Confirm the year.ini file in Cumulus/data

I thought I had found that appears to refer to dates in 2015 ?

The one in the data folder will, yes, as it's for this year. You need to look at the last one from last year, in Cumulus\backup\daily, in a folder which will probably be called 20141231090000 as that will have been taken at 0900 on the 31st. Look for the year.ini file in that folder. As you use an 0900-0900 day, double check the date for the high windrun by looking in dayfile.txt, I'm not sure whether the date in there refers to the end of the day or the beginning. The date in dayfile.txt definitely refers to the start of the day.

Cheers - I think I have it

I thought it was going to be in February, but that suggests December ?

See attached

I have also got the file and spreadsheet open using your other suggested method - any idea which column number it would be ?

many thanks

It's the 17th column, column Q in Excel. See http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/Dayfile.txt
