New WH3081 Station Does Not Transmit Outside Temperature

Post by papermilk »

Hi all,

For Christmas I received my first weather station the WH3081 before purchasing I was aware of the solar panel issues but mines a bit different. The weather station transmits everything fine except outside temperature and humidity i've tried holding down the reset button taking out the batteries holding down the arrow key on the console but nothing works it still shows - -.

I tried to google the issue but could find nothing I then tried to find a replacement transmitter on ebay but all I could find was one for the WH1081 model. So just wondering if anyone on this forum could help me out I really don't want to go through the trouble of returning it. And like I said everything else works fine but does not transmit the outside temperatures which seems really strange.

A couple of things to try.
* Take the batteries out of both, situate them close together and then put the batteries back in.
* Try disconnecting the UV sensor.

I got one of the same units. The console is now redundant because of these same problems and the continual data spikes.
I also noticed that outside sensors dropped off for hours after using my garage door opener. The station was a real source of frustration for me.
I'd advise returning for refund, but unfortunately to get something better costs alot more.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. So the Console is receiving wind and rain data? That would imply that the temperature/humidity module inside the transmitter is faulty.

If there is no wind/rain data either, then maybe something can be done with further "manipulation" of the (Pod) Reset button, the batteries and the Console <Down Arrow> button (hold in for at least 8 seconds).

Not much is known about the "insides" of the 308x sensors, partly because all the transmitter cases are sealed with glue, so need to be prised open with a knife or credit card, etc..

If there are no warranty possibilities or issues and you have some electronics experience/tools then a "repair" might be possible. For example, somebody on this forum swapped the humidity modules in the Transmitter and Console, to get the external value working properly (at the expense of the indoors value).

Cheers, Alan.

Unfortunately I have already tried all those steps above with no luck. I really can't be bothered going through all the trouble of returning it either everything reads fine except the outside temperature and humidity. For $120 you would really think it will work then you find yourself paying $300 for a la Crosse and $600-$1000 for a Davis. To me that seems a bit silly since at that price you can buy brand new developed processors and other technology.

Hi,

I'm new in forum and i have the same problem in my WH2081 Weather Station (two years now the station works perfectly but the last five days the outside temp and humidity do not send info's). I tried and opened the case with outside sensors for temp and humidity inside, but the sensors are in a small board with electronics (not find this sensors on ebay)

I'm surprised that the outdoor sensor sends other data when the temperature and humidity aren't sent. That's not a typical failure that I've seen (and I've had my WS3081 for a few years now so I've seen a few :groan: ).

I definitely would be trying to get the transmitter replaced under warranty, given it's so new and has been faulty since day 1. The vendor should be interested in doing that for you at least - and I never like suggesting it but consumer protection laws might also help you.

But I'd prefer to troubleshoot more :) I'd be trying the unit with the solar pod and wind sensors disconnected and see if that then syncs and sends the temp/humidity to the display. Add back each sensor as you go to see if that makes a difference.

Yeah just to update we sent a message to the seller saying the outdoor temperature isn't working and no questions asked he replied with "ill send a replacement transmitter out". I'm pretty happy with that hopefully I can keep this weather station going for a long time yet and get a more expensive one next time.

Got another update on this situation this time a good one :)

Today the replacement transmitter arrived I dropped everything and hooked it all up. Instantly the outdoor temperature and humidity showed up but I noticed the lux and solar wasn't showing up so I thought oh no here we go again. I quickly held down the reset button on the solar unit let it go and then held down the arrow key on the console it updated and everything worked just fine.

I hope this thread helps anyone with the same or similar issue in this case the seller was awesome and sent out a replacement part no questions asked once we told them of the issue.
