Darn Spider !
Had no rainful recorded yesterday.. On closer inspection a spider had taken residence in the water guage and somehow managed to stop the meter working! Anyone else have critter issues

Yes, got the 'T' shirt - see previous posts. Hope you disconnected it when cleaning out or you will have massive rainfall!

Re: Darn Spider !
Hi Graham.
that problem was well documented very early on.
Spiders spin web around the casing causing the buckets to jam.
Very simple solution is some fine web/mesh over BOTH holes (in and out).
I use a 5 cm square of muslin from my wifes crafting stuff, stuck with superglue.
Works a treat and still in place after 15 months.

Re: Darn Spider !
yes, I can vouch for the mesh -- I used mosquito netting! Wrapped round all of the base and sides, just not the top
Early on I had a small colony of earwigs take up residence inside my rain gauge. Soon got rid of them!

Re: Darn Spider !
I take the easy option - at the first sign of any spider activity I spray the station with Bug Clear (normally used on my fruit and veg).
Seems to last quite a while before they return!
Cheers,
Tim

Re: Darn Spider !
I've also had spider trouble and it was only a tiny one - only a matter of time I think if you don't do something about it.
