Archive Retrieval

Post by BenfleetWeather »

Hi guys, I've got a few questions which have been bugging me tonight.

I've just connected my console to my PC again for the first time since August, which screwed up all of my rainfall totals

Cumulus was displaying

Yesterdays Rainfall: 301mm
Monthly Rainfall: 0.2mm
Annual Rainfall: 363.8mm

Accurate console figures are

Yesterdays Rainfall: 7.4mm
Monthly Rainfall: 24.8mm
Annual Rainfall: 666.8mm

My first question is why did this happen?

I've since corrected the values by editing the daylog, then adjusting my annual value in cumulus config to get to 666.8mm

The second question is, do I have to connect my console to my PC every day for Cumulus to make a daylog? My data logger interval is 10 minutes.

Am I right in thinking that Cumulus will download everything off of the data logger and create the daylogs as far back as it can retrieve, meaning that the rainfall totals get topped up automatically?

I would hate to have to manually input rainfall data every time I miss a day of connection (I'm only at the house 3 days per week, the console is running and storing data, but the PC is usually off).

Thanks for any help

Cumulus will download the logger data and update all the data files as long as data is available from the logger. At 10 minute interval the logger will hold 17 days of data before the oldest will be overridden in the logger. So if you run Cumulus at least every 17 days you will be okay.

If you did not run Cumulus since August there would have been no data available to Cumulus from sometime late August or early September to about 17 days from restarting Cumulus. That would certainly affect your totals.

Thanks a lot for your swift reply! :D

I can easily have my station connected at least every 17 days! I'm aiming to have it off only at the weekends from now on out.

Something that I've just noticed is that Cumulus states that it has 0 archived records read, and checking up on my daylogs, the last entry was the 14th of August.

My console did die a few days ago after running on low batteries, surely there should be a few archives on the data logger for downloading though?

Thanks again

I think that what the Vue does if Cumulus asks for data from a date and time before the data that it has in the logger, is that it says that it has no data available. I think there was another thread about this recently. You can edit today.ini to bring the timestamps within the period that the logger actually holds, and it should then send the required data.
