downloading data stalled
Hi Steve
I have been running Cumulus 1.8.4 build 605 on my XP service pack 3 machine for many years.
Today when I initialised Cumulus, it displayed the downloading data window but just stopped with the downloading data window not incrementing. Even after leaving it running for 10 minutes.
I tried rebooting the PC but same result when I re-initialised Cumulus.
I managed to open the debug form and that displayed :
Debug info
Request EW data block, addr = 000000
Looking back through the forum, today.ini seems to be a area that causes problems on start –up.
Below is the data in mine and it looks odd at the end. There are loads of squares between yesterday=0 and for 8 lines after esterday=0 but they don’t appear on the text below
Hope you can help
Best regards
Derek

Re: downloading data stalled
That is a very very old version of Cumulus and I can't tell if it will fix your problem but upgrading to current version is highly recommended. You should also read the release notes as there have been some significant changes/improvements. Upgrading is easy as just do it on top of your existing, and you'll like it. Like always make a copy of you data folder and better yet your full Cumulus folder. Current version of Cumulus will do an automatic backup every night and at every time of a shutdown.
Enjoy,
Paul

Re: downloading data stalled
As Paul says, that is a very old version of Cumulus, about six years old in fact. I can no longer support that version, and you will need to install the latest version if you want any help from me. However, it is likely that the station USB interface has locked up and you will need to reset it, as described in the FAQ - http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#Cumulu ... .22_screen
If your today.ini file has corruptions, you will need to fix that, preferably using a good text editor like notepad++.

Hi Paul and Steve
Great the reset did the trick.
However I still have the corruption at the end of the today.ini file. I will upgrade to the latest verision of cumulus but will a completely new today.ini file be created or will the corruption be carried over? Not surprisingly the example today.ini file in cumulus wiki looks nothing like my old version!
Best regards
Derek

Re: downloading data stalled
The today.ini file will get overwritten when Cumulus runs, as soon as it starts logging data.

Hi Steve
I have upgraded to 1.9.4 build 1099 after the problems noted previously in this string and I like the new features and display.

Any suggestions to corect this error?
Best regards
Derek

Re: downloading data stalled
The problem may not be evident in whatever it is you are using to display the file. Notepad++ will usually show it; normally a blank line or garbage/null characters which the system has written for whatever reason.
If you zip the file up and attach it, I'll take a look.

Re: downloading data stalled
Hi Steve
November log zipped up and attached.
I have take a quick scroll through it and the only thing I can see of note is that on Nov 27th 11:50 to 17:20 there is a string of identical values. I undated to the latest release on 30th.
Best regards

Re: downloading data stalled
Sorry, I'd completely forgotten the beginning of this thread and how old the version of Cumulus was that you were using. The latest code isn't expecting such an old version of the data logs. It caters for more recent additions to the logs, but not back as far as version 1.8.4. Eventually it will stop looking at the November log at start up and stop reporting the error.
