Hello dear friends. I am the owner of AERCUS WS3083 meteostation, connected to a SONY VAIO laptop with OS Windows 7, and I use Cumulus. During the last days, i have been receiving in Cumulus the following error message all the time: "Fine Offset station not responding. You may need to reset it (remove batteries and USB cable" . I do exactly as instructed but nothing changes. Some times it might work for some minutes, but again the same situation happens. Can anybody please help me?

It's a common problem with Fine Offset stations, are you using the 'Synchronise Fine Offset reads' setting in Cumulus? It may help.

But as you're using a laptop, a quite likely possibility is that your USB ports are going to sleep. Make sure you have disabled any power saving settings for your hubs and ports.

Dear Steve thank you. I tried to use the 'Synchronise Fine Offset reads' setting and i disabled the power saver from all hubs. Nothing changed. Also i tested the meteostation to a pc and the results are the same.

Are you sure that the problem is in the usb port? Τhere is not a possibility that it's a hardware issue of station? Or cumulus doesn't cooperate right with the WS3083 model?
The meteostation works perfect the only problem is that the cumulus can not cooperate with it.

No, not at all. The problem could well be with the console, it often is, even when they are working "normally". Perhaps yours is actually faulty.
Or cumulus doesn't cooperate right with the WS3083 model?
It's always a possibility. I've done the best I can, given the information available to me. Lots of people appear to be using a WS3083 successfully with Cumulus (taking into account the basic issues with Fine Offset stations).
Anyway the meteostation works perfect the only problem is that the cumulus can not cooperate with it.
If it's working perfectly with other software but not with Cumulus, then unfortunately you won't be able to use Cumulus - sorry.

No i didn't test it with other software. I mean that the consola works perfect with the external unit with not faults. There is any other software that i can download and test it?

Easyweather would be the obvious choice, as that's the software supplied by the manufacturer.

Hi eklek,
I suffered a similar problem last year. I read somewhere here in the forum of others who had similar problems and it does seem to be a common problem. I have the Maplin version of the Fine Offset.

One of the suggestions was interference on the usb cable / ports and one of the "try and see if it helps" was to put a ferrite bead on the USB cable between the weather station and the laptop. I bought one from my local Maplins (£1.99) which just clips around the cable and since then, touch wood, I haven't seen the problem in its entirety. I do ocassionally get the error you do but if I leave it alone it tends to recover and carry on working. Mine has been ok since January this year.

For a couple of pounds it might be worth a try.

I ended up doing a full reset on the console and leaving the batteries out for a couple of hours, and that fixed my problems for a few months.
having already tried different usb ports, pc power settings, cables etc
eventually a change of console worked.
I did notice a difference with the USB cable running near the wireless adapter, especially as the wireless adapter and console were on the same internal pc bus
in control panel you can view devices by connection and you may find that you have a few different USB root hubs (sometimes you need to plug a few devices in simultaneously to make sure they are all active) and you can identify that down the daisy chain there may be several different roots, from which you could plug into a diffent branch. this may help, as it has helped especially with transferring data across external HDDs to have them plugged into different busses (as they are not sharing the same "pipe")
