Incorrect temperature setting?

We are currently expieriencing a cold snap with frost by night. At this time outside there is frost forming on car roofs. However my display is showing 2.9c. Surely this is wrong, or is it? Can it be that the real temp is nearly 3c, under cover etc but in exposed areas is below zero?
Thanks for any advice

Yep is frost at 10 cm or comes from radiation mostly when iets clear, normale temps are measured at 150 cm

Thanks for the reply, but to clarify, so you think my reading is correct with the station about 3m off the ground and the frost appearing on the top of car roofs at 1.5 m?
