Cumulus won't comunicate with Vantage Vue

Post by AVLNiner »

I currently have a Davis Vantage Vue and I've used Cumulus to report to Weather Underground since I installed the station in January of 2014 and I love how it reports my date. I've bought my parents a Vantage Vue and decided to give them my computer for their data and thus I've bought myself a new computer. The computer I bought is an Asus running the updated Windows 8 and has 2 USB ports.

I can't seem to get the new computer to communicate with my station, I get a 32701 error when I try to initialize Cumulus. It seems the problem is with the driver. I've got all my settings matched correctly in Cumulus so that shouldn't be the issue. I'll attach a screen shot of my device manager showing the device it found and the error is incurs. I've tried to download the correct driver and I run into problems when trying to find where it was downloaded. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Devin

It sounds like you have already done this, but just checking that you have had Weatherlink running to get the correct Com Port settings, etc.? If it is working with Weatherlink then stop WL and run Cumulus using the same Com Port number in Cumulus settings. You are aware that you can't run WL and Cumulus at the same time, right? And you must have your station initially set as Serial, not as USB even though it may be a USB data logger.

I have also had the 32701 error and a computer reboot and restart of Cumulus has fixed the error.

Enjoy,
Paul

You're going to have trouble getiing that to work until you get the C2101 driver installed correctly.
Try this one here (the top one):

What browser are you using?

In Chrome, you can access previous downloads by clicking the menu button (three horizontal bars at the top right) and selecting 'downloads'.
In Firefox, click the downward pointing arrow near the top right, and select 'show all downloads'.
In IE, click the 'cog' at the top right, and select 'view downloads'.

Try the driver that uncle_bob has suggested, it's supposed to be the best one for Windows 8.

Thanks for the help. I notice you mentioned C2101 driver in your wording but the link you provided takes me to CP210x, are these the same thing?

The link you provided is where I went over the weekend and I clicked the top link. Once I download that, I clicked the arrow in the upper right (using Firefox) and opened it. At that point I saw :x 2 system files and 1 application extension .dll, but no executable file. Do you know where I should go from there?

Yes. the x means any number.

I've just downloaded it to check it out.
It's a zip file. Extract all the files. Then run the CP210xVCPInstaller_x64.exe or CP210xVCPInstaller_x86.exe depending on whether of not your OS is 32bit or 64bit.

If you can't figure out how to install the driver, take a look on youtube, there will be thousands of videos showing how.

Wow, I feel like a dummy now. I was able to extract all files and run the x64.exe successfully and my station is up and running. Thanks to everyone for the advice and help!
