Uploads to Weather Underground

Hi Steve,

Since I bought my weather station in late April I've uploaded feeds to Weather Underground more or less continously. I used the feature in WeatherLink but switched to Cumulus this week as it doesn't have the always-on-top interface problem of the WeatherLink module.

But one feature of that WL module was the ability to upload archived data should your PC be off-line for a period of time. Cumulus doesn't have this feature as far as I can see.

I would like to continue my feeds to WU and to use Cumulus to do it but I'm concerned that if my PC is off-line I'll not have a continuous record. Is this something you could look into providing please? I know you have a lot on your plate but for those of us who upload to WU it would be an invaluable feature.

Hi

Yes I would like that feature too if possible.

It's always been my understanding that you can't upload data to Weather Underground retrospectively. Each upload does have a timestamp, but some experiments I did seemed to show that WU ignored the timestamp and stamped each upload with the current date and time. If you're sure this isn't the case, I can do some more experimenting.

Hi Steve

I think this is the link to Ray's Wunderground PWS site.

http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... &year=2009

If you look at the previous days, there are no breaks; so that means that he has it running 24/7 or it is possible to load historic data.

I often leave my station uploading till after midnight and then Wunderground joins the last reading to the first reading of the day, which is easy to spot. It would be great to upload the correct data and it does seem possible.

PS I have sent a ticket in asking how it is done.

Steve,

I have successfully uploaded data to WU when I forgot to restart the RF service. It's definitely possible and the reply to Keith's ticket should confirm it. It would be a very poor service if archived data could not be uploaded. I keep my netbook running 24/7 but many won't.

Thanks for raising the ticket Keith. :)

This one.

But if they reply and say it should be possible, then I'll do some more experimenting.

Of course, if it's possible, then the easiest way to do it would be to upload it while downloading and processing each record, which will slow down the startup somewhat.

Then there's the question: Do you want this in the current Cumulus or the ever-further-away version 2?

Speaking personally I could wait until C2.

Well it has been without this for a long time anyway, and it's not really a bug :)

Hi

There is no satisfying some people is there. lol :D

I guess that it would upload after Cumulus had downloaded from the weather station. :geek:

Would it not be useful to have this tried and tested, before porting into Cumulus 2? 8-)

But of course, nobody wants to delay Ver. 2

I never suggested it was a bug. ;) It's only become apparent to me since I switched from the WL upload and you fixed the average wind speed to current which encouraged me to switch to Cumulus for the update.

Are you a victim of your own success with us wanting all these new features? ;)

Hmm. Tricky. Lots of new code there, for a start, as well as the issue of what to do about the "current" updates going on at the same time as the "hostorical" updates, and how well WU copes with that...

Well it would at least be useful to know that it does work, whether they say it should or not.

No, I know. My point is that we are supposed in a phase of bug fixes only for V1.

I'm very happy to put in new (sensible) features (like this one), it's just being in this situation of trying to do V2 at the same time that creates a problem, as there's only one of me, and I'm going out now to cut the grass anyway

Ah right, wasn't aware of that. I shall refrain from submitting any new ideas until C2 is out. :)

Concentrate on C2 Steve and maybe put something on the forum that you are only working on bug fixes only. Last cut of the season? ;)

I already have, a number of times :) It's probably hidden away in long threads, though, I haven't actually "announced" it.

When we lived up in the heights in Wanlockhead, it might have been; the growing season there was only about three months long. Here it seems to grow all year round. But once the winter storms start and the sea starts coming in the garden it gets a bit hard to cut ;)
