Fine Offset Device Not responding

I've used Cumulus with my Ambient Weather WS-1090 now for a few years. About two months ago I upgraded my computer from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. For the first month, everything continued to work properly as before. Within the last month I've been getting a "Fine Offset station not responding. You may need to reset it (remove batteries and USB cable)" error. I first tried doing with the error suggested but that didn't fix it. I have subsequently discovered that the only to get it working again is to restart the computer. The problem is that works for a somewhat random period of time. It sometimes will fix it for a couple of days, but other times (like today) it only fixes it for a couple of hours. I had been running version 1.9.3 when it stopped working so upgraded to 1.9.4 (build 1098) but that didn't change anything. I'm open to trying other ideas.

Have you turned off all of the USB power saving settings in the Windows device manager and the power options?

The only thing similar I find is "USB Selective suspend setting" which was enabled. I've disabled that it and will see how that works. Thanks!

You will probably need to turn off the power saving settings for the hubs in device manager also. Right-click on each hub and select properties. Under power management untick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

The hubs were all already set correctly. I did find some USB Input Devices and one HID-Compliant vendor-defined device all set to turn off to save energy. I unticked those and restarted. We'll see tomorrow if it works. Thanks!

I finally also turned off the provision for the network adapter to power off to save energy. Finally with all those off it has now stayed operational for a week. Thanks again for your help!

That's a bit odd, the network adapter shouldn't affect the connection to the the console. But if you're not getting the problem now, that's the important thing.
