How to Correct an Error in the Sep14log.txt File?

I am running a Fine-Offset WH3080 with Cumulus on a Windows 8.1 computer.

Over the last several days, I have had the error messages below:

29/09/2014 06:33:23 : Error on line 25283 of C:\Cumulus\data\Sep14log.txt: List index out of bounds (1)
29/09/2014 06:33:24 : Error reading C:\Cumulus\data\Sep14log.txt at line 25283: List index out of bounds (1)
29/09/2014 06:33:24 : Please stop Cumulus and edit the file to correct the error

I tried to identify the relevant error in the Sep14log.txt file by opening the file in Notepad but couldn't see how to locate line 25283.
Does anyone know how to do this, please?

Thanks for any help

Chris

I do not know if you are able to use another piece of software to read the file that can display line numbers. For example Notepad++ http://notepad-plus-plus.org/ is free software that works, in this instance, very like Notepad but will show line numbers.
See FAQ: http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#Error_ ... line....22.

Alternatively, if you are more technically minded and can understand the right settings to use, try the 'Calc' component of Libre Office that is free software (or Apache Open Office which also offers 'Calc' and is free), or indeed many other pieces of software that can manipulate 'Comma Separated Value' files. With more complex software like this you can merge in the header line from 'Cumulus\monthlyfileheader.txt', search as you would in the Cumulus viewer, edit the error, and then delete the header line away again before saving the file as a text file with extension '.txt'

The other approach if you do not want to download additional software is to simply work backwards from the end looking for a line where the pattern of fields does not match the line before. Do this using the viewer provided in Cumulus. The wiki http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/Monthly_lo ... de_Cumulus does list what rules apply to a line in the monthly log e.g. no blank lines. Once you have identified where the problem is, make a note of the first two fields (date and time) and search for those with cumulus closed, editing the file in your Notepad.

In Notepad, you can use Ctrl-G to go to a particular line number. But do yourself a favour and install Notepad++.

Thanks to sfws and Mark I have been able to correct the error. There were a lot of additional spaces in line 25283, that I deleted and Cumulus is now running without the error message.

What a wonderful helpful forum this is.

Thanks again and regards from Chris
