Dynamic DNS
Hi Steve, Cumulus may report an IP address in order to have control panel remotely by internet through any of the Dynamic DNS service?. Could you maybe do some access panel like this? Would be very useful for users to modify data on the control panel of Cumulus. Sorry if there is already a thread with the subject, Many Thanks.

Re: Dynamic DNS
The new version of Cumulus which I'm working on has a separate user interface which runs in a browser, so you will be able to access that remotely to display data and to configure it.
If you want to do that with the current version, you could use something like LogMeIn to access your computer's desktop.

Re: Dynamic DNS
I have no plans to add any dynamic DNS facility to Cumulus; I don't really understand why you think it needs it. The new interface listens for TCP/IP connections, so if you set up your router appropriately, you will be able to connect to Cumulus across the internet. if in addition you set up dynamic DNS, then you will also be able to connect to Cumulus using the name that the dynamic DNS is set to resolve. To keep the DNS up to date automatically, you would use whatever software is already provided to do that - it doesn't make sense for me to replicate that functionality in Cumulus.

Re: Dynamic DNS
I have no idea. As always, I'm doing it in my spare time, I have a full-time job and other commitments, and it's a huge task - a complete rewrite. It's impossible to give forecasts.

Re: Dynamic DNS
Connection by DNS, would be very important to load conditions remotely through current conditions box manually. Thanks!

It's not really clear what you are trying to achieve here...Areco747 wrote:Connection by DNS, would be very important to load conditions remotely through current conditions box manually. Thanks!
I *think* you want to be able to change the caption on your website that reflects what's typed into the conditions box?
If so, why don't you do it directly on the web server instead of via cumulus?
ie don't use the conditions box, do it another way.
It's a huge security risk exposing your cumulus PC to incoming connections from the internet by opening router ports and using dynamic DNS...
I work in IT security and would never do this myself, if I absolutely had to have connection to my home machines via an external connection, I would use a VPN connection instead...

Re: Dynamic DNS
You may be right. But in my view cumulus need remote access. Thanks

Re: Dynamic DNS
Why don't you use something like teamviewer?
It's free for personal use and let's you remote access your PC and is a tried and tested solution.
Even if cumulus were to be able to accessed remotely, it is crazy to expose your PC on the Internet in this way.
Steve may program the best remote access interface, but all it needs is a vulnerability in a shared library that cumulus uses and your PC is wide open for anyone to exploit/wipe or worse...

Re: Dynamic DNS
You can have also remote Access to your weather pc with VPN if your router support it.

Re: Dynamic DNS
Thank you all for the suggestions, maybe Cumulus should have an application that allows uploading current conditions as does MyAwekas of AWEKAS from a PC or mobile device.

Re: Dynamic DNS
There is something like that already with the tag <#currcond>. You can write the condition you have and add the tag on your page.
