they can't get in, not yet away!

Just noticed this hacker bot in my web server log, we he tried!
hack1.txt
Edit: I see that IP address is allocated the UAE Police :o

I've started running ZB Block rather than brute force blocking countries in .htaccess, it seems to be quite good, anybody got experience of it?

Mark,

I notice your station isn't broadcasting. Just a coincidence I hope. :?

Yes fortunately. The broadband was down when I woke up, I did wonder for a minute :o

Got it back up again now, hopefully it will be stable.

Just noticed you're back. :) Broadband problems eh? My 4 day old replacement modem caused me to lose broadband for a while last night. Okay this morning fortunately.

Not sure what was wrong with mine, it wasn't a general outage this time though.

I have someone from a Philippines IP subnet (49.144.0.0) that has being downloading my realtime.txt every 2.5 seconds for the last week. I have blocked them at the firewall so I just silently drop the packets (and hopefully it doesn't then count in my bandwidth usage), but they are carrying on, changing their IP address every couple of days. I have blocked the whole subnet as I'm not sure anyone from the Philippines will be interested in the weather in Cheshire!

Mark,

You're very clever in being able to determine who visits your site and for what purpose. I have no idea about security for mine but suffice to say I'm sure Steve or his hosting company take good care to protect mine (and all the others).

I get regular visits from many countries according to FlagCounter. Not sure if they're genuine people or spy bots. Maybe I'm better off not knowing. Everything seems fine.

I make sure that when I set up the web space, the file permissions on the server are set such that no other users on the server (i.e. no other users of my hosting) can access your files. I believe that the web server software (Apache) and other associated software is set up correctly. So I believe the server is reasonably secure. But beyond that, the security of your web space (including taking backups if required) is entirely in your hands, as it would be with any other low cost hosting.

Steve,

I backup my Cumulus generated files and web files every 6 hours. In the event of a disaster I will be able to upload the latest data and files.

I think you've probably got it covered, then.
