No HTML files appearing on website

Post by sammyc »

Hi all.
I'm having real issues with trying to get my weather station online. I've checked the index page of the webspace and the html files never appear. All other files appear OK.

Turn on ftp logging and attach the ftplog.txt file here - or look at it yourself first, the problem may be obvious. Please confirm that the web pages are actually being created/updated in the Cumulus web folder on your PC. A link to your web site may be useful.

Thanks Steve. The web address is http://thedowns.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Weather/

I've attached the file below.
The indexT files (etc) are being created but nothing is finally getting uploaded. Can't see anything obvious on the log. It suggests the upload is successful.

Cheers, Sam

The server is returning error 426, which is "connection closed, transfer aborted":

20:35:05:596 FTPRequestDone ftpPutAsync Errcode = 426

I don't know why the server would do this for the pages but not for the images. You could try turning off ftp rename. You said that the indexT files etc were being created, but that's a template file, so it's there to begin with. Are the actual pages being created, e.g. index.htm?

Note that you have apparently put 'htdocs' for the ftp directory in Cumulus, but it appears that you are already in htdocs when you log in. You give the URL as http://thedowns.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Weather/ but you have not specified "Weather" as the ftp directory. Assuming you have created a Weather directory on the server in htdocs, then you would need to put "Weather" for the ftp directory.

Yes I changed the directory half way through. It's now going towards Weather although the real web pages are still not being created so I'm a bit confused.

Are the pages (e.g. index.htm) being created correctly on your PC in the Cumulus web folder?

No. Just have Originals and images sub-folders in the 'web' folder.
I've copied an updated ftplog below if it helps (I doubt it though if no html pages are being created).

Thanks for all your help so far. Fingers crossed it's just something simple I'm not doing.

If click on this link http://thedowns.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Weather/ I get a permissions problem.

Two reasons for this I would have thought :

1) You are loading this to an incorrect place.
2) the folder does not have the correct permissions set to allow FTP upload and others to access the site.

Thanks for this.
Perhaps or could it be because there is no index.htm/default.htm file and it's trying to access the parent directory?
I'm not really sure how I'd rectify this? Previously all of my files have worked fine and as the html files aren't being created on my PC I wouldn't like to jump the gun and suggest this is the issue.

If the web pages (the ones without the T in them) are not being created on your PC, then this is not an ftp issue or anything to do with the web site permissions.

Please zip up the diags folder and attach it, and a screen shot of your internet settings screen in Cumulus.

Not sure what the issue was but I now have it up and running (except real time).
Installed a Virtual Machine running Windows XP rather than 7 installed cumulus, reset my web address and its now working.
New web address: localweather.webspace.virginmedia.com

Thanks for your help (and for Cumulus) Steve!

Some hosters dont allow .txt extensions you can try to ftp a .txt to find out, but there are also hosters that don't allow the rapid frequency of uploading from files.

EDIT : see this thread too https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=10092

I have had the site running for some years but since 10.59.59am last Wednesday I have been unable to upload data to my website - claxton.me/weather. Client returns the following

“Logging in to namesco.net
Changing directory to /web/weather
Uploading standard files
Sending html pages
Already disconnected!”

Namesco say their checks show that “The reason for your website at claxton.me/weather showing a blank page is due to the index.html page containing no data (0 bytes). Looking further into this our FTP logs show that there is a regular FTP connection being made to the server and uploading an index.htm and realtime.txt file, in these cases the files being uploaded contain no data (0 bytes)”.
I have checked that the two files mentioned together with the today.html, yesterday.html, record.html, trends.html, gauges.html, this month.html and thisyear.html contain data. However all files on the server last are shown as being last updated 03/02/2015, see attched.
The diagnostic error log from yesterday shows FTPRequestDone ftpPutAsync Errcode = 426. A copy is attached.
Grateful for any pointers.

You have 'UTF-8 encode' selected, but it appears (from looking at your other pages) that the pages you are using are not the supplied UTF-8 encoded pages, but are iso-8859-1 encoded (according to the headers). The FAQ describes this exact situation and the solution (make the setting match your pages) - http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#My_web_pages_are_empty. If this is the problem, I don't know why you would have just suddenly started seeing it if nothing had changed.

If turning off the UTF-8 setting does not fix the problem, you need to turn on ftp logging and look at ftplog.txt.

Thanks Steve,
I can’t recall making any recent changes to the templates, indeed when I installed your last update I kept the earlier ones which had my minor changes. Up until last Wednesday there hadn't been any issues.
I deselecting ‘UFT-8 encode’ but that didn't help and have looked at the wiki - but that’s beyond my comprehension. Unfortunately neither does the ftplog
Namesco site mentions that “This site is configured to use an out of date, unsupported version of PHP. To upgrade to the latest version for free, please click on ‘Scripts & 1-Click installs’, then ‘PHP Version’ from the menu on the left”. Would this be of any relevance?
Anyway would the most straightforward option for me be to (re)-install your latest version 1.9.4 overwriting my existing templates?
