I'd like to see someone's 'basic Cumulus website' please?

I'd like to see someone's 'basic Cumulus website' please?

Post by WxLee »

I am thinking of making a basic weather website with Cumulus data derived from my Davis Vantage Vue WeatherLink USB data logger, so that I can use one of the Android OS weather apps which would get its data from a website fed by Cumulus. I've been successfully using WeatherLink to feed Wunderground, but I'm tired of their continual dropping of my station listing and then taking days to re-authorize it and put it up again after it is fixed. So I'm looking for alternatives. I am now also feeding PWS network with Cumulus (and happy they don't instantly de-activate a station if it goes offline).

I've been reading the guides here, and I think starting out with just the basic website would be a good beginning, possibly using Steve's hosting service in case I need help with a problem. Who would know Cumulus better? :)

But I have yet to see an example view of a basic website like I would get on my first attempt, without doing any customizing. Could someone who is running such a site post a link here so I could see it?

Thank you, and I LOVE the look of those gauges! :)

I've looked around and seen some other similar sites mentioned on here that I presume are also the basic layout, but they use thermometer style indicators on the top section of the Gauges page. Nice, but the gauges on the above site are very cool!

How hard would it be for me to implement those gauges once I got the site up and running? So far I am quite impressed with what Cumulus has to offer as well as what Steve is doing in general. And I like that these web pages and all their graphics open well in some Android phone browsers too.

One question - on the page where Steve offers his hosting service, it says to send him a PM if one is interested. But being a new member here prevents me from sending PMs. Is there some other way to reach him?

Those gauges are easy to install with the instructions on http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/SteelSeries_Gauges

OK! Thanks!!

I have to hand it to Steve, as I read and keep learning more about Cumulus. It is a very nice looking app and runs smoothly. And I just learned in the Cumulus.ini wiki how he implemented steps to work around the issue of how running Cumulus prevents data from uploading to Davis Weatherlink. I have adjusted the Disconnect period in Cumulus and am now able to run Cumulus and also feed data to Weatherlink simultaneously. :)

I have a question about the gauges. Some, like the Temperature gauge shown below, have a little rectangle with one or two arrow symbols. What are those for?

My graphs are also not the standard ones for the current version, as I'm now using the upcoming new version of Cumulus, which doesn't generate graph images.

WxLee - you should be able to send me a PM now as your first post has been approved.

If you look near the start of my gauges.js file, you can see the "look'n'feel" settings I'm using - http://sanday.org.uk/weather/scripts/gauges.js
