Adding images .....

Post by ianboag »

This is probably a dumb question because I have missed something in the FAQ. I did look .....

I am doing a basic sort of setup for an airstrip. I figured out enough about the templating to chop the front page template down to something simple. All I want is temp/humidity, wind speed/direction, QNH, sunrise/sunset, rain last hour/today. For this application it is OK to update every 30 minutes. I also want to add webcam pix (mainly so aviators can get an idea about the cloudbase. I can generate the pix OK outside of Cumulus - the idea is that the latest pic will be in a specified folder with a specified (constant) name - overwritten by new ones. Actually it's 4 pix, taken looking N,S,E and W

The pix are quite small - VGA res is fine and quality does not have to be all that great.

So I assume I take something like the "trends" template and butcher it to display just these images and the latest ones get uploaded on refresh .... ? Most of the fancy stuff in Cumulus is not of interest for this application.

I really like the idea that there is no server-side stuff. I can do PHP, but this site really does not need to be flash.

Or have I missed something about how this would be done .... ?

It sounds like you have the right idea. If you've already modified one of the templates, you understand what needs to be done. Just modify one of the templates to display your web cam images as well as or instead of what it does by default.
