motion detection script to capture lightning

We had a small lightning storm last week, the camera's motion detection capture picked motion but no oightning. I don't think it's was fast enough to capture lightning...
So now I have yet another method, I'm still using the camera's own motion detection capture, but I'm going to use that to trigger my own script.
Basically every 10 minutes I run my normal script, in this it'll check to see if a motion jpg still has been recorded and if so, start my script to capture a image every 4 seconds for 1 hour. Once the timer has expired, it resets everything waiting for another trigger.
The way I look at it, I would be more likely to capture a lightning shot in the hours worth of 4 second captures than the cameras slow detection capture!!!

Now to wait for a lightning storm!!!!!
:groan:

Don't count on it I have done it manually during a thunderstorm ( set to 1 capture per second) and still no luck

Will be the luck of the draw then....

Will manual capture get that shot, or will it be motion detection??

9/10 times I'm either at work or asleep, so I always miss it!!!!
lets hope the camera doesn't..
I have caught flash lightning a few times.....

I tell you what, I've got heaps of pictures of flying birds during the day!!!!
