Rain data error always 7.2mm

Post by zecrich »

I have had some data from last night that reads 0.28 mm rain per hour overnight and I have had an accumulation of over 7 mm and yet we had no rain!

What could be the reason? Its happened once before and that was overnight as ell from 3am to 7

So it happened again but its 7.2 mm again, any thoughts?

A relatively small amount like that suggests to me that something caused the buckets to tip (rather than the huge increases that can occur with things like electrical interference). Wind gusts can cause this, as well as a rain gauge which is not securely mounted.

If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll see if I can see anything untoward at the time of the recorded rainfall. Does the console show this rain as well as Cumulus?

I have already corrected the data in Cumulus, the console did show it as well.
The rain gauge is mounted on a wooden post that is cemented into the ground, I did this as vibration on the pole can cause false readings. The wind wasn't enough to cause it, I don't think.
I intend to make sure there are no resident spiders in there.

My station sends data to Weather Underground ISOUTHEN10 I have corrected the data there as well.
I did wonder if a cat had knocked it but it went on too long

Please don't edit posts, they don't get flagged as new, so neither I nor anyone else has any way of knowing that you've done it. I was only able to find this because you also sent me a PM asking the same question.

As I said in my reply, if you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll take a look. If you don't know how to do that, instructions are in the post linked to near the top of the forum - "Please clisk here before posting..."
