Wind Graphs Question

Post by mehim »

Hello all,
Thank you for the wonderfull software that you have provided I will soon make a donation as it is just so easy and practical compared to most weather programs given with the station.

My father owns a Vantage Pro 2 and I just got myself the OS WMR88 and we both use your software however I am having trouble understanding how the plotting works, I understand these are two very different station but this is the issue, if you could follow the first link (my station WMR88) and then the second (my fathers station VP2) you will notice a difference in the way it graphs:

WMR88:

http://www.mirad.fr/meteo/trends.htm

VP2:

http://meteo.fargesbas.fr/trends.htm

Now even though the VP2 is higher resolution (data come in at smaller intervals, which you can clearely see on the other graphs) then the WMR88, something seems to be averaging out the values on my Dad's VP2 charts (and it is NOT the "10 minute average" that is checked).

Could someone kindly explain what is happening if they understand it, and how do I make my fathers wind chart look similar to mine?

Kind regards,

Tim Earl

The WMR88 actually has the higher resolution - 0.1 m/s or 0.36 km/h. The Davis has a resolution of 1 mph, or 1.6 km/h. This is why there are fewer distinct values on the Davis graph. Note also that the speed plotted for a Davis station is always a 10-minute average; either Cumulus calculates it or the station does; the result is the same.

Thank you very much for quick and precise response.. I had no idea resolution was better on WMR88, i just assumed that blindly because of price difference. Well thank you very much and GREAT program! You will soon recieve my donation.

The resolution on the WMR88 is higher, but the Davis is much more accurate.
