The latest update (2.x.2.8-20140512) breaks FTP transfer completely.
Able to setup FTP, but the option under snapshot and motion for FTP are greyed out and of course it doesn't work...
I was able to roll back to a earlier version to get everything working!
so just letting everyone know.

ace2 thanks for the Info
I have the same cam and my firm is 2.14.1.15. I have add it 2 months before. I saw improve my Picture (
http://www.meteoacharnes.gr/) but i cant use ftp to upload images every 15 sec with the same name. So i use this script:
http://my dyndns:my port/CGIProxy.fcgi?cmd=snapPicture2&usr=name of user&pwd=pass of user.
So i didnt want to use ftp to add more mb to my bandwidth for the update my Picture of my main camera.

I can't remember what firmware I had, but it was 3 upgrade to get to current and I agree, picture quality was a massive improvement.
I'm able to upload every 17 seconds to my NAS drive as well as upload any motion detected, this is all done by the camera interface...
Looking at getting a netbook on day to take care of my weather station and webcam as my poor media centre is getting hammered...

There is also a new update. I update first to 2.14.2.8 and ftp is working like prevews. But i dont like it because i want to update to a spesific folder always with the same name. Let say image.jpeg.
The new firmware is 2.14.1.10. And the picture is more realistic.

I'm running 2.14.2.8 which works fine, update 2.14.1.10 with plugin version 3.0.0.1 is the one causing problems.
Have contacted Foscam support and they are looking into it.

Strange, both times I've upgraded. The ftp under snapshot & motion is greyed out, can setup ftp in main setting and says its working, but nothing transfers. ..
Roll back one and it works fine!!!

Thanks for that, I'll have another go at it next weekend.
Been playing around with Wget with direct access via http, then processing a text overlay with the ffmpeg every X seconds.

This works fine as a batch file
Code: Select all
::image get script
set name=1
:start
wget "http://192.168.1.97:88//cgi-bin/CGIProxy.fcgi?cmd=snapPicture2&usr=*******&pwd=*****&" -O snapshot.jpg
ffmpeg -i snapshot.JPG -vf "drawtext="fontsize=16:fontcolor=white:shadowcolor=black:box=1:boxcolor=black@0.6:fontfile=LTYPEB.ttf:textfile=z\\:overlay.txt:x=(w-text_w)/2:y=700"" -q:v 3 frame%name%.jpg -y
timeout /nobreak /t 14
set /a name=%name% + 1
goto start
Wget is a free cmd http downloader
FFmpeg is a free cmd convertor
this loops and captures a photo ever 16-20 seconds and overlays realtime.txt as shown in photo below
still playing around with this.
Other things i already do with scripts: daily timelapse videos, hourly timelapse videos, highlight photos, web cam images, setting camera on/off using dusk/dawn cumulus flag with offset, archive jpg & videos and creating timelapse for youtube(higher quality)
it's either scripts or pay for IPtimelapse software(which i might do as it's easy to use)!!!
