Where should you place the gauges?

I've had mine running for a while, It's only about 10ft AGL on a short pole at one end oif an outside office but I notice that the temperature reported inside and out seem way out consistently.

What is the best method to make sure the temperature readings (or any others) are half decent/callibrated?
Where should anything be placed? I assume only the wind need to go high the rest can stay low to the ground.

Right now the outside temp (in the shade using a borrowed chem lab mercury thermometer) is 23'C, the WH1080 or WH1081 not sure which it is now.... says 26.3'C (the whole lot will be in direct sunlight). It's reporting inside at 30.9'C, this has been measured at 25.4'C When it gets cold it is wrong too.

Hi Dom,

Welcome to the forum. Excessive External temperatures in direct sunlight are not unusual with the FO "sunshield". I've often seen +5 degrees C, but I guess it will depend on the amount airflow (wind), or lack of it. So yes, a proper Stevenson Screen is highly recommended for the FO transmitter/sensors.

However, your high Internal temperature does seem unusual. The older versions (with a relay) do "self-heat" by up to about +1.5 degrees (over a period of a few hours) when the USB cable is plugged in, but I've never seen more than that. Are you sure that the "local" air is not being heated, perhaps by the PC? But otherwise, any consistent error can be easily corrected in Cumulus's Calibration settings.

Thanks both... yes I'll build something as the temperature variation is pretty big.

Internal... the console is attached to a wall (that might be warmed (office is a 44 mm timber cabin)) no where near any heat source but it does feel warm inside. This morning outside 14.6'C inside 17.6'C

I think I'll have to try some calibration and sort out proper offsets.
