As I understand it, the Vue is designed such that when the solar panel is facing south, the wind direction reading is correct. Obviously, in the southern hemisphere, you need to have the solar panel facing north. I understand that what you have to do in this case is to use the console's wind direction calibration setting - see "Calibrating Wind Direction Reading" in the console manual.

Re: Davis Vantage Vue Wind Direction wrong side
I have always assumed the Console takes care of that when you configure the latitude and longitude in the console setup.
My unit faces North and has the wind direction correct.
See below

Ah, perhaps so.
The Vantage Vue ISS manual says:
In the Northern Hemisphere, the solar panel should face south for maximum sun exposure.
In the Southern Hemisphere, the solar panel should face north for maximum sun exposure.
Note: If you install the ISS with the solar panel pointing in a direction other than south, you will need to use the
wind direction calibration function in the Vantage Vue console in order to obtain accurate wind direction
readings. See Vantage Vue Console Manual for more information.

Re: Davis Vantage Vue Wind Direction wrong side
Just re-read the manual and as always Steve is correct
In the Vue manual this is not covered anywhere in the actual setup procedure but only in the calibration section (page 27 in the manual I have).
I must have followed this when setting it up and forgotten when posting before.
The manual talks about doing this calibration when the vane is stationary and determining its direction. On reflection I think I may have done this calibration on the ground before I ever mounted it on the mast - no wind effect, unit aligned North and vane pointing North as I did all the set up before it was put up on the mast.

Re: Davis Vantage Vue Wind Direction wrong side
More info please;
1. what is the real wind direction?
2. what does the console say? ( I expect the same as Cumulus since Cumulus gets the value from the console).
There is a flat on the spindle for the vane set screw - I guess you got the vane screw aligned in the flat OK.
Does the vane move about freely? the Vue vane is pretty lively in my experience.
If the vane is moving freely and the vane is on the spindle correctly, and the console and Cumulus agree but are both wrong, then check the calibration.
So while this is happening;yeah I'm on Southern Hemisphere in Australia but wind vane says South east and cumulus saying NW

Re: Davis Vantage Vue Wind Direction wrong side
As you are exactly 180 degrees out, then presumably you just need to set the calibration because you are in the southern hemisphere, as described in the manual.WXStevo wrote:yeah im on Southern Hemishere in Australia but wind vane says South east and cumulus saying NW

You need to follow the procedure in the "Calibrating Wind Direction Reading" section of the Vantage Vue Console Manual. There's a copy on the Davis site if you've mislaid yours - http://www.davisnet.com/product_documen ... _06351.pdf. It's on page 27.
