Cumulus Support

I have been trying to find this information for my 2 day old PWS.

I have the following set as my units:-
mph mb C mm

With mph being the odd one out and not metric I was wondering if I should change it to m/s or km/h? I know any changes invalidates my data however I have had a wind speed of 0 to 3mph for the last few days so not to worried about that.

If I do change I want to change it now, and not leave it for weeks. So is their a UK 'standard' that I should use rather than mixing and matching English / metric units?

Thoughts?

The official unit of horizontal wind speed in the UK is the knot.

So its Knot if I want to use the official UK units for my station. Is that what everyone on here uses? or do people just use what they fancy?

Most people probably use what they fancy. Those people who are doing it properly (e.g. those who report to the Met Office, like Paul in Brampton - http://www.bramptonweather.co.uk/cumulus/) will tend to use knots.

I use the units which mean the most to me and the majority of people here on the island who use my site, i.e. mph/C/mb/mm, which is a bit of an odd mix. Some UK users still prefer mph/F/mb/in, but despite the fact that I am an old fogey myself, I am now more comfortable with C and mm.

I don't think other countries have this same odd tendency to use a mixture of units that we do in the UK; they are either wholly metric, or they are still staunchly wholly "non-metric".

In the UK we all know MPH, I was thinking of using KPH, however if the the proper measurement is Knots then no one in the public like me will have any real link to with real life comparisons.
