Cumulus keeps restarting problem?

Post by tomcatuk »

Just recently upgraded my machine from XP to Win7 and everything seems to be running fine.
I have Mark's (Wilmslow Astro Weather) system status page and it shows that Cumulus quit and
restarted this is the second time its done it on this server start up. ie
Cumulus Uptime 4 hours 59 minutes
Server Uptime 2 days 10 hours

and on my taskbar I have two copies of Cumulus showing hover over them with the mouse and one disappears so not sure why its quitting and restarting which it did about 5 hours ago...

Any settings that could be causing this?
I have the Stop 2nd instant and restart if data stops ticked.

"Restart if data stops" can cause Cumulus to restart. There's a clue in the name ;)

My guess would be that you have some USB power saving settings enabled, I believe these are set by default in Windows 7.

I am reminded (by this thread - https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11887) about this - https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11858 which could well be causing your restarts. If so, it's interesting that this has apparently just started happening (or become more common); perhaps something changed in a recent Windows 7 update which caused Windows time synchronisation to work differently...

Just an update to my problem, just discovered that having made sure the option to "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" was all unticked I realised that the CP210x properties for this option was still ticked!
I had missed that but since updating to the latest version of Cumulus I have not had the problem so far.

I also run "update drivers" for Silicon Labs and no newer ones were found yet going onto their website there was indeed a later driver silabser.sys from 6.6.1.0 to 6.7.0.0 so was worthwhile checking.
