I just bought a WH1080 from Clas O & find the display is not very contrasty and so difficult to read from more than about a foot away. Compared the the earlier FO staion that I had it's nowehere near as good. Unfortunately the transmitter failed on the earlier station.
Has anyone else found the same?

Yes, the touch screen membrane they have used is not very transparent. I did see a thread about removing the film and adding physical switches somewhere. The contrast is adjustable, but you cannot get it 'good'.

After reading the above, I found a thread on switches but it's really about replicating the touch screen rather than removing it. Has anyone tried to remove the touch screen with positove results? I don't really use the screen buttons so would not miss it, but of course that'll invalidate the warranty.

Hi,
AFAIK the touchscreen is (or was) a separate module which can be removed, but you may need to fabricate a "spacer" to maintain the pressure on the LCD contacts. Also you might need to use the touchscreen at some time.
A solution I have adopted (on one unit) is to illuminate the backlight LEDs all of the time that the USB is connected. But I didn't use the modification described on this forum, but simply soldered a resistor from the USB socket to a LED, which can the done on the back of the PCB without further dismantling.
Cheers, Alan.
