Problem with new Windows 8.1 installation

I've got a new computer that I'll be using to run Cumulus, as well as some AIS software. It's a Lenovo Q190 running Windows 8.1. Computer is up and running fine, and I've got Cumulus installed and it's showing the data locally. I've copied all the configuration settings over from the old laptop (Windows 7) where it was all running fine but I can't get any data to upload to the website (or for the AIS data to publish to the web for that matter).

What I think is the problem is that under Windows 7, both programs appeared to use a COM3 port (USB something or other...) but under Windows 8.1 I can only see COM1 (which is not shown as being USB) - sorry can't recall the exact wording as I'm currently at work. I've looked through the Device Manager but the only COM port I can see listed is COM1.

I've changed the settings to COM1 in both programs but that hasn't worked, and if I add in COM3 as the port I get a Windows error saying the port doesn't exist.

Has anyone any suggestions as to what to do next? I'm not really a PC person - more used to Macs!

Thanks

Fine Offset stations don't use COM ports, they are USB HID devices. So the COM port settings are not relevant. And as you have Cumulus displaying data, the problem is nothing to do with the connection to the station, and, assuming you actually have the ftp details configured, it's likely to be some kind of ftp issue, possibly related to a firewall or similar.

Please turn on ftp logging and after a web update should have occurred (as configured), attach the ftplog.txt file to a reply here, along with a screen shot of the internet settings screen in Cumulus.

Thanks for that - will look at it when I get home tonight and post the details.

One further query - is there a way to easily find out the ftp password used within Cumulus (cumulus.ini file perhaps)? I think I can remember it, but it would be good to verify it somehow!

Yes, all of the configuration details are stored in cumulus.ini.

All sorted. My own stupid mistake in that I had a typo in one of the ftp file paths!

And I got the AIS problem fixed as well - needed to download an updated driver for windows 8.1 to enable virtual COM ports.

Thanks
