Barometer pressure faulty?

Post by dexterslab »

Been a looong time since i have been around here!

had to change the batteries in the sender unit today after 3 years! Its branded ClimeMet CM2000 which is a rebranded WH1090

After i set it all back up i noticed that the pressure reading is fluctuating just about every time it refreshes going up and down randomly by sometimes 15 hpa. Is the same in abs or rel modes.

Am thinking the pressure sensor is going faulty?

Anyone else seen this before?

I had something similar, also after changing batteries in the receiver. (The pressure sensor is in the indoor unit.) I haven't tried replacing the pressure sensor, I just bought a complete new kit.

thanks jim

it now thinks the pressure is 1259 hpa!

shame, i had hoped it would last longer than 4 years, all the external sensors are working fine, well once i had extracted the spider and 4 egg sacks out of the rain sensor (ewwww!)

not really in a position to buy a new one unfortunately, unless the receivers are available on their own?

:(

perhaps you will lost data if you have on line readings but have you tried reset it? it must have a small hall behind it

Yes i have tried resetting it several times

The console readings mirror what cumulus says

You can see how the readings flatline at points on my site, the sections where it flatlines are at the the same time on all sensors internal and external.

I am debating if i should buy a new console

Hi,

Yes, your graphs do look more like a general "Console" problem than with the barometric pressure sensor module itself. But always double-check the batteries, removing them (and the USB cable) for a minute or two.

Unfortunately, there are so many "variables" in the Console specification (radio frequency, for example) that purchasing a replacement cannot (normally) be recommended (unless a "second hand" one turns up at a very low price).

However, complete stations do sometimes get advertised "on offer" at around £50 or less (I bought a "spare" as low as £40, delivered), so you may just need to be patient. In particular keep a watch on Maplin. ;)

Cheers, Alan.

I purchased and put into operation the Nevada station wh-3080-solar, on December 2th 2014, using the application EasyWeatherPlus version 1.0.
Few days later, I downloaded ( from http://www.foshk.com/Weather_Professional/WH3080.htm ) & installed the newest version 2.0.

After two weeks, while running version 2.0, the following events happened simultaneously:
- the absolute pressure sensor stopped responding
- the application refuses to download history data from the connected device

Both versions of the application EasyWeatherPlus, seems to be poorly designed ( for example ver. 1.0 “complains that the pressure is missing and prompts to enter a value, in a read-only field!” ).

All other instruments & sensors work well!

Now I use Cumulus, an application of superior quality! I have data, graphs, statistics, etc.

I'm wondering if there is any way to reset or fix the failed pressure sensor. I think that an utility or a special program could do that.
So, has anyone seen such a program?

For anyone who interested, here is a memory map used by the various Fineoffset weather stations: http://theapplebyclan.com/Richard/Weath ... oryMap.pdf

when my console failed, first the barometer showed bad data but after a while everything stopped working properly.

I did open it up so see if there was anything obvious but it's quite cheaply made and highly integrated.

The main board is a simple single sided phenolic pcb with a COB (chip-on-board) that pulls data from the sensors and the RF receiver and drives the LCD and touch sensor, there is also a Holtek USB mouse controller IC to provide the USB connectivity. There is a disrete pressure sensor module, temperature and humidity module and RF module.

Although the internal sensors on the board are discrete and could be replaced, it would be difficult to source the exact parts to make it viable.

i think if they go faulty you might as well throw it away

The idea is to access (through a software tool) the value of abs pressure sensor, in order to reset it & fix it. I remind that both versions of EasyWeatherPlus does not allow to edit this field.
The actual value of the abs pressure, that presents on the LCD screen, is always 0 (zero).
Of course I can change the value of relative pressure, directly from the device, but this is not the issue.

ALL other instruments & sensors work well: Wind speed & direction, Temperature & Humidity (inside & outside), Rainfall gauge, UV index, Light intensity !

Also, although version 2.0 of EasyWeatherPlus presents the current weather conditions, refuses to download history data from the connected device. WHY?

Anyway, I hope the following pictures help:
