Thought I would ask before tesing this...
I using a foscam cam and its own software to take still shots between 6am & 9pm, but wondering if I set motion section, will it pickup lightening??

My cam has, But that using the PC for motion detecion.

My camera's motion sensor picked up some, more it was more the tail end of the lightning, So I thinks it would be better to set the camera to take snap shots every x seconds, bit of a pain going through 4000+ photos in search of lightening.

Thought you might like to see what my weather cam picked up on Tuesday night.

Stunning pictures.

My station has been running since 2011 and that's the first lightning shot I got.

I admit, I had turned the internal webcam from its normal viewing position, to where the storm action was. If I had been away from home, I would have missed it.

Are you guys using motion detection on camera or setting interval capture????

I have Yawcam saving an image every 3 min during day time and motion detection night time. I didn't realize I had/could capture a lightning strike until recently when I came across an image in my motion folder from earlier that evening, and then found I also had captured some in the past. We haven't had many strong lightning storms for seems like a few years now so hadn't been paying attention for it. I will check more often though.

These were also captured during the same event... I was amazed how bright the night sky can become from a lightning bolt.

p.s. we get our daily paper delivered by car in the wee hours of the morning and the motion detection picks up the car headlights most of the time as the car enters into the driveway.

I think its great what our cameras are capturing, & its only when you painstakingly interrogate your hard drive, do you find the hidden gems.

My camera is set up to capture a frame every 15 seconds, which then automatically updates into a avi video file every hour on the hour.

Your statement about how bright the night sky becomes with a lightning strike, has prompted me to post the following pics:-

Before, during & after the lighting strike.

I had manually upped the camera capture rate to real-time 25fps to capture these images & cropped them for clarity.
Without doing so, these images would not be possible.

Updated my foscam camera's firmware, added schedule for motion detection and created a simple script to take care of the jpg's.

Now to wait for some lightening to see if I get lucky!!!

Now automatically uploads to my site and even emails me if motion is detected..
Now to wait for a storm.....

should I turn IR off???? I normally do.....
