A little update, my camera was attacked by rain drops last night which set the motion detection off resulting in 588 photo of blackness.

The up side, the detection + scripts work correctly!

To make up for the negative bit, here is a rainbow...

I've got 100's of lightning shots. I wouldn't use capture every xx seconds. You'd be lucky to get anything. I just use motion detection to take 10 shots. Some lightning take up all 10 frames. I can then stack them into 1 shot. All my lightning shots are in an album on Facebook.
I thought my logitec Pro9000 would be good, but the quality is crap. Any suggestions?
Ps. Computer crashed 3 days ago, this runs as my server.

I now use both together, I primary use the camera's motion detection to detect lightning and a script to monitor this which activates a 1 hour timer to capture a shot every 3 - seconds.
I don't run any stream monitoring software at all...

Just a thought, I have 'Axis' cameras for security and in the Axis software there is a 'Prebuffer' setting - I have mine at 5sec, so I get 5sec of video before the trigger event. Someone much smarter than me could possibly write a script this for a webcam(?)
