WH1081 no signal

My WH1081 (N96FY) was finally put up a year after moving house, I'm disabled and so I have to wait until someone finally volunteers lol

So after a week the screen on the received is only showing indoor temp and the outdoor readings are replaced with _ _ _ _

I've tried resetting the received and the transmitter part of the station has new batteries in it and I can see the red led flashing.

Any ideas? Do I need to get someone to reset the transmitter?

That suggests to me the console is not in communication with the sensors outside. I don't have a WH1081 but whenever I've seen the same --- on my WS2350 it's because I've disconnected the lead from the outdoor unit to the console

Its wireless. I'm guessing the transmitter has failed, Maplin sell a replacement

Has it ever displayed any "external" data? Did you check it indoors first, as recommended in the manual?

If you have removed the Console batteries AND the USB cable (together) for at least a minute, then we have to assume that there is some other issue than simple mis-synchronistation. That could be a faulty transmitter or receiver, too large a distance between them or local radio interference.

Can you bring the transmitter to within about 1 metre of the Console for testing? Also / alternatively, unplug the USB cable as it might be radiating interference, and move the Console away from any other electronic device which might be causing interference (Computer, TV, Cordless/mobile phone, WiFi router, etc., etc.).

Beware that all "Maplin" stations (even with the same stock number) are not equal, so "spares" should be purchased with caution.

Yes I was receiving external data for about a week, occasionally the screen on the receiver would stop showing wind direction but Cumulus still showed it, then I started getting wrong wind speeds, it was showing 0.7mph or 1.6mph but nothing else.

I unplugged the USB lead overnight a couple of days ago and the next morning the date and time was wrong and there was no external data. The red led is still flashing on the transmitter.

So if I order a temp/humidity for an N96FY, it might not be compatible?

That's more indicative of a faulty Console, or more likely just flat batteries. The batteries are not easy to test (and power fed via the USB cable might be problematic) so IMHO a fresh set of Alkaline AAs for the Console could be a worthwhile investment. Others tests also might be possible.

The wireless protocol of the Maplin stations was definitely changed about 2 years ago (making older stations incompatible with later transmitter "spares"), but it has recently been reported that they have also changed the radio frequency. I'm doubtful about the latter report, but have no firm information on it's accuracy or otherwise.

This morning I have a battery symbol and TX now is that low battery in the outdoor sensor? Because its had new lithium batteries a week ago.

I guess all this isn't looking good

Hi,

Yes, the "Low TX" icon is intended to show that the Transmitter battery is getting low. But if it is a "correct" report, that suggets that the Console is receiving (some) data from the External Transmitter. However, IMHO it's unlikley that the transmitter would discharge a pair of Lithium cells in a week, particularly if the Red LED is flashing normally (once every 48 seconds).

I think you need to move the transmitter closer to the Console to determine if these "communication problems" are caused by the radio link, or by a more fundamental fault with the hardware. Note that the older Consoles only "update" their "Low TX" status icon at midnight each day, but I think that may have changed on more recent units.

So the station has been taken down and I tried to resolve the problems.
I'm now getting some readings from the station, everything except wind speed. I used a voltmeter on the anemometer and when spun it gives a reading in ohms. So its working, I think the problem is the wind direction sensor unit, although it gives a wind direction I think the problem is in there somewhere, the anemometer connects through it and I have checked the connections,.

So a new wind direction sensor will be ordered when Maplin has them in stock
