I have just tried accessing Grantown Weather, the pages loads onto my phone by about 3/4 then it freezes and forces my phone to switch off. Bizarre
Using a Samsung s5600.

After my initial unsuccesful attempt I now have my weather displayed very nicley on my mobile phone - smashing, very happy and well done
tks

It's obviously designed for an iPhone and it has some javascript coding which may not be compatible with other browsers so I can't say what effect it would have on a non-iPhone/iPod Touch. It will depend on the implementation of the Javascript on a Samsung I guess

The page loaded okay on my Samsung Omnia WM6.1 (Opera Mini) but was a bit wide for the display. Very usable though. PIE pretty much ignored the style completely but that is one of the reasons I normally don't use it.

Pretty common for iPhone like websites on that type of mobile platform.

For many non-iPhone browsers (especially WM6+) the use of XHTML Mobile 1.0 DocType will make a huge difference in the display of a mobile web page. It is sensed by the WM browsers and causes them to do strange cool adjustments that you simply can't get via other CSS and HTML settings.

Not sure it would make the page load better though.. Sounds like perhaps a server or phone issue (could be Javascript as Daj mentioned). Some phones have cache issues if you don't clear them.

You might try changing your DocType and see what it looks like on your phone after that.

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//WAPFORUM//DTD XHTML Mobile 1.0//EN"
   "http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/xhtml-mobile10.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
Tweaking the mobile site so that it looks good on what you use might have its advantages. If you are using PHP, you could do some tricks to detect what the devices is and adjust accordingly but might be more work than worth.

Thanks for the coding. I've modified it some to suite my needs.

http://www.gwhizpc.com/weather/mobile

I've also modified the homepage to auto-redirect for anything under 700 pixels wide. Most netbooks have a min of 800.

Code: Select all

<script type="text/javascript">
if (screen.width<700)
{
window.location="Place your mobile link here"
}
</script>
Place the code between <head> </head>
