Wind Speed issues

I have a little wind speed issue Cumulus is approx 1.5 mph faster than my w-8681, can I compensate as I do not appear to be able to input a negative compensation value? Any help would be appreciated.

You shouldn't need to use the wind calibration setting to compensate between Cumulus and the station. It's a multiplier anyway, so a negative value doesn't make sense. It's for correcting the value provided by the station if you happen to know it's under or over reading.

Does this help explain what you're seeing: http://sandaysoft.com/faq#faq_7 ?

Hi Steve thankyou for your reply however,
I still dont understand this are you saying that the actual speed on the station screen is not related to the latest speed in cumulus other than it being an average?

Cumulus therefore does not show the actual wind speed at any given point except gusts?

What can the calibration setting do if it does not correct the difference between station and cumulus? Surely the only way to use the compensation then is to have an additional outside source for the reading and compare the station to this adjusting as required.

If the readings are different from what the station is receiving does cumulus store and restore the actual reading or the reading shown on screen?

This is still a little confusing sorry however I am new to this.

"Gust" on station = "Latest" on Cumulus
"Gust" on Cumulus = highest of above figure in last 10 minutes
"Speed" on Station = "Average" in Cumulus if you don't have Cumulus set to calculate a 10 minute average.

If you don't have "calculate 10-minute wind average" set then the two wind values provided by the station (gust and speed) are displayed directly by Cumulus as latest and average.
What can the calibration setting do if it does not correct the difference between station and cumulus?
Yes, sorry, I didn't explain that very well. It does of course change the value as displayed by Cumulus compared to the value as displayed by the station; but you appeared to be trying to use it to correct a perceived error in the display of the data by Cumulus. It's to correct an error in the measurement of the wind speed by the station (e.g. if your anemometer is in a sheltered location, or you want to compensate for the height of the anemometer compared to the standard height of 10 metres).
If the readings are different from what the station is receiving does cumulus store and restore the actual reading or the reading shown on screen?.
Cumulus displays the actual readings if you tell it to (i.e. you don't have 'calculate 10-min wind average' set). The naming of the values may be confusing, but this is because no two types of weather station are the same (i.e. they don't provide the same wind speed measurements), and I've tried to come up with a compromise naming that works for all stations.

Thank you makes alot more sense now.
