Hi,

Just wondered if anyone has sourced a new transmitter for the WH1080 / WH2080 in the UK other than Maplin? Apart from Maplin wanting £15, I've also read on another post that the protocol between transmitter and base station may have changed since I bought my unit.

Thanks

Hi,

The Maplin transmitter is actually for the WH 1081 which does not support the (optional) Radio Controlled Clock function of the 1080. Clas Ohlson and Walters and Stanton (AO) have sold replacement parts in the UK, but I believe at a higher price than Maplin's.

But the number of different versions of the hardware is so high (and generally impossible to identify from the outside), that I could only recommend buying a "spare" from the original seller and/or with an agreed free "Sale or Return" basis. What is the "brand" of your original station?

Cheers, Alan.

I bought it on Amazon in Aug 2011, searching Amazon using the same description comes up with this, which is so far as I can see what I got:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pro-Wireless-We ... B002LSEN52

It has the Radio Controlled clock. It cost a bit less when I bought it but not much.

Maplin offer money back without quibble so I may try one of their transmitters but for £15 I thought that I might as well get the whole system as a refurb unit for £45, however they have none in stock at the moment.

Hi,

If it's a non-touchscreen type, it's probably a WH-2080. There's currently one on Ebay (at an even higher price) which has a more complete specification, including at the foot "frequency 868MHz (Europe)". So very probably NOT compatible with Maplin's.

Maplin have (sometimes) recently been selling their brand new 1081s (touchscreen) at around £50. If I were spending £80+ I'd be considering the 3080/1 (Solar) version (but beware of the known "issues" reported on this forum).

ADDENDUM: Clas Ohlson currently have their 868MHz version "on offer" at £69.99 and also sell "spares". But the transmitter is over £20 and other spares are more than double Maplin's prices. :(

Cheers, Alan.

Maplins Been tiring to get transmitter for wh1081 maplins only now sell 868MHz as changed supplier and have no 433MHz left, it took me 2 months to fine this out. I stated after receiving 2 868MHz then learning that they did two MHz transmitters it was only went got a 3rd I found out they don't do 433MHz

That's good to know, many thanks for posting that info.

I was on the verge of buying a replacement transmitter for my 2yo station. I've taken the old transmitter apart to see if anything obvious has failed, unfortunatley I can't see anything wrong. One thing I did notice is that it has a component with 'HR433C' printed on it....

Looks like a new station will be needed.

If anyone is interested in a 2nd hand 433Mhz display & a broken transmitter, please PM me. I've just ordered a new station from Clas O., they have them on offer for £49.99 just now, 2yr g'tee and free delivery for a short period if you buy over £50 worth of goods. You can always use a spare lightbulb!
