Cumulus loss of communication w/Vantage Vue

A couple of times in the last month I have encountered an error w/Cumulus where it looses communication with my Vantage Vue console. The error light blinks with a message to that effect.

First time shut down Cumulus and rebooted PC - problem solved
Second time - just closed down and restarted Cumulus - communication restored.

The data flatlines - i.e., the temp displayed is whatever it was when communication was lost - so the correct data is not downloaded on start-up.

Not sure what causes this - diag folder is zipped and attached. Any thoughts/suggestions?

I can't tell you any more than you already know, that there was a loss of communication. Assuming you have a USB logger, you could check to make sure that you have no power saving settings turned on for the USB ports, check the cable, check that the logger isn't loose in the console, try a different USB port...

There do seem to be issues with USB and Windows 8 (or perhaps just 8.1), from what I read on the interwebs. Several times during the day, I get the notification sound that a USB device has disconnected or disconnected. I haven't got around to investigating what it is.

I too have had a lot of disconnect/reconnects on Win8.1 USB on a PC that does not use Cumulus so it has nothing to do with Cumulus.
I found it related to a small USB HDD that was connected via a small Targus 4 port USB Hub - removed the hub, problem solved!
Exact same setup gave no problems on Win7.

Went in and turned off power saving for the hubs. Would checking the restart if data stops in the configuration help at all?

It may do, in so much as it should cause Cumulus to restart when this happens and then (possibly) cause the connection to be re-established, or if not, at least stop the data flat-lining - i.e. it would stop recording if it couldn't re-connect.
