wind gust and education please

When our Weatherwise instrument records the wind gust..we are using the computer program
Cumulus. This afternoon we were having some wind gusts but not up to 132.0 miles per hour. This was listed in Recent Extremes for today. In the regular wind gust spot..the wind was 38 mph, which is more realistic for my locaton. I was outside at the time and no way could I have remained upright! We do get 95 mph beforfe a storm. I don't know how to fix this. And my 'weather' language is not great. What I read I normally do not understand, so have to have an answer in very simple language for a weather station novice. Thanks.

You are seeing the 'spikes' which are a common occurrence with Fine Offset stations (yours is manufactured by Fine Offset). Cumulus filters out some of the more obvious spikes, but on the Cumulus calibration screen there are 'spike removal' settings which when used will cause Cumulus to filter out spikes to your specification. Be sure to read the help for that screen to understand what the settings means.

To remove the value, you can use the dayfile.txt editor in Cumulus to edit yesterday's high value to something more realistic (you'll have to work out a value for yourself, but you can look at the Cumulus logs using the log viewer to find something suitable).

You can then edit your all-time highs and lows, and the other highs and lows, using the editors in Cumulus. There's more information in the FAQ and the wiki about this: http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#How_do ... records.3F
