Webhosting - bandwidth considerations

My website has been hosted by uk2.net for some months without any problems using their starter package.

All of a sudden the site goes down and is replaced by a message that the bandwidth limit has been exceeded and they say they won't reset it. It seems that this package is subject to 1gB limit.

It would have been nice if I had received an email to warn me but no.

Their standard package which costs a little more but is still fairly cheap has unlimited bandwidth so may be the one to go for.

I'm not strong on maths but I take it that realtime uploads every 15 sec and uploads of the standard pages every 15 min is likely to exceed 1gB.

Secondly, whilst I know there is a list of some web hosts in the FAQs, this thread might be a useful spot for users' recommendations of web providers found to have given good service and good value for money.

1GB bandwidth limit is very low, most sites I have seen have a minimum of 5GB.

I upload quite a lot as I have the realtime graph running and various other things (including email) and I am running at 6-8GB per month, about 5GB of which is FTP.

Personally I would recommend Vidahost https://www.vidahost.com/web-hosting/overview , even their Basic package has a 5GB monthly Bandwidth. I use the Standard Package which gives me the ability to buy 3 years hosting for the price of 2 and gives me 25GB per month bandwidth. They boast a 99.9% SLA but my experience is that is near 100%, but most of all their customer service is second to none, instant response and friendly, knowledgeable people based in the UK!!

I also rate Vidahost. I have other sites hosted on them.

My www.westonweather.co.uk site is currently hosted on a server at home running on BT Fibre so no bandwidth limitations to worry about.
