Rain Spoon Assembly for Vantage Vue ISS (UK) - HELP please

Hi,

Does anyone have a spare one they don't need? A long shot but I think I might have to buy a new one.

My console picks up the rainfall, then sometimes it doesn't. It does seem windy weather doesn't help but even when gusting 30mph I can't believe it will not register rainfall as the rain is so so heavy!

It has been happening for several months now but now happening more often. Works great for a few hours, even days then works now and again or stops for hours!

Heavy rain this morning, working great! Was windy too but then 9am it just stopped again and it continued to rain for hours with nothing registering.

Had the station down.

Battery OK.
Rain debris screen fine, nothing blocked or anything that would cause problems.
Registering temp, wind everything else with no problems.
Done a console SETUP reset many times, which in the past seem to "fix" the problem but not now.

Does anyone have a clue what it could be and would you suggest that I replace the unit and see if it continues as that seems to be the only option left.

Cheers
Jon

Hi Jon,

No answers after almost a week, so presumably "nobody knows". You might need to be more specific (or perhaps show a photo) of what might be wrong with the "insides".

It might be just a matter of replacing the magnetic reed switch, or cleaning connector contacts or bearings. But I've no experience of Davis units; "Prodata" seems to be the main UK source of knowledge on Davis internals and spares.

Cheers, Alan.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

It has worked great since but again today slacked for an hour once the average wind speed went over 10mph.

I reckon when the wind picks up slightly it is causing a connection to slip so I am getting it down tomorrow and intended on looking at the connections for the battery/rain gauge reed switch as I think it may need a clean or connections tightening.

Cheers
Jon
