Unchanged for... How long?

On the same lines as Ray Proudfoot's "New Record? Post here." here is something slightly different.

This afternoon my outside temperature remained unchanged at 4.1degC from 1622 to 1948hrs. I thought there might be some kind of technical problem as I've never seen temperature stay static for so long, so I checked nearby neighbour stations and they record a similar behaviour although all showed an occasional little variation of .1deg here and there.

So.... if you observe an unusually extended period of an unchanged weather trend (wind, temperature, er... anything else?) why not post it here?

That looks odd. Just 25 miles up the road this was my temperature trend for the last 48 hours. As you can see there was quite a variation here. Are you certain your station was broadcasting in that period?

An optimist would observe the night-time temperatures are excellent. A pessimist would complain daytime temps hardly rise.

Wind and cloud cover are great levellers.

The temperature, even if it is steady, will normally vary by 0.1 or 0.2 degrees up and down as a matter of course. However I have very occasionally noticed this strange effect where the temperature will stay exactly the same for 10 or 15 minutes or so. It always carries on eventually without any indication that it was a false reading. What I mean is that the value doesn't suddenly jump afterwards. It just varies normally. I have always assumed that the temperature really has not varied during that time, and this is a strange combination of effects.

We've recently had a heatwave of 5 days of around 40 degree maximums that abruptly ended at 18:00 on 17/1/2014, then the temperature dropped by over 20 degrees in just over an hour and remained around that point till nearly midday the following day:

I had a period of 3 hours on 3 Aug 2010 where the temp and dewpoint stayed constant... it was a very moist day with the lowest humidity 97%.
It is rather unusual to have absolutely no change though.

I've seen the same problems as the OP occasionally. If the issue is the same, and it looks like it, it's the station playing silly buggars where it just stops sending temp data. Usually a battery pull fixes it.

It's not a sensor fault or battery problem, it happens sometimes when we have calm conditions like now with a steady wind speed from a constant direction.

To prove the sensor is working, check the humidity too, it's from the same sensor. If there is ANY variation when your temperatures were not chaning then the console must have received data from the sensor.

That's what I thought and had concluded. It looks 'unusual' to see a longish period of no change but it clearly happens because of genuine weather conditions from time to timeand this thread was to see who got the longest instances, wherever they maybe in the world (and not including events caused by duff sensor batteries, obviously )

I've set the bar at 4 hours then. Just after 6am to just after 10am with no change. (See above).
