Cumulus Main Screen question

Hi Steve,

I'm running Cumulus on a Samsung netbook that has a screen resolution of 1024*600. When I maximise Cumulus it looks like this. Notice how some of the descriptions are quite squashed and the barometric boxes are barely large enough. There appears to be plenty of available space width-wise.

Would it be possible for you to stretch things a little please?

Thanks.

PS. I've edited yesterday's monsoon-type rainfall rate to the correct rate. Station maintenance was required. ;)

Hmm. I took the decision some time ago that Cumulus required a minimum screen size of 1024x768. Then, after a number of pleas from people with smaller screens, I found a way to easily rescale the screen so it would fit smaller displays. It's not perfect, but it's better than not seeing all of the Cumulus window.

Unfortunately the scaling has to be the same in both directions, so your width and height are both being scaled by 600/768. I'll see if there's anything I can do about it, but I suspect there won't be. It may be that I can tweak the figures a bit, given that it probably over compensates a bit at the moment, hence the wasted space it's created at the bottom.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for agreeing to look at the layout. I appreciate it's dificult to please all of the people all of the time. ;)

Strangely, when I run it on a 600 height display I don't get quite as much wasted space as you at the bottom. Odd.

Anyway, I'm not proposing to do anything about the layout as such (I don't think I could rearrange it in a way that would help anyway) but what I might be able to do is tweak the resizing factor a bit. It currently assumes the Cumulus window fills a 1024x768 display, and it doesn't quite. So it doesn't need to be resized by quite as much as it does currently. But I'm not sure the difference is large enough that it would actually make a noticeable difference.

I could make the rescaling optional...

Steve,

I appreciate it's difficult to experiment with changes if you're not able to run at 1024*600. Making rescaling an option might be worth a shot.

Cumulus is certainly readable but on some resolutions things just look a little squashed. A desirable rather than essential change.

My broadband's been off all day, so I've spent a few hours tweaking the layout. It works reasonably well for me at 800x600, so hopefully it will be OK for you. I'll upload it this evening.
