I have been noticing that the wind chill temperature and the regular temperature are always the same even when the temperature dropped to 24. Now the apparent temperature was around 18 if I remember correctly. Why is this?

Re: Another question
Not really. I had a idea of what apparent temperature was but I was under the impression that when the temperature drops below 40 I think and there is a wind blowing than there is a wind chill which in cumulus case appears to be what apparent temperature is.sfws wrote:Does http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/Temperatur ... Parameters help you answer your question?
So I am somewhat confused here.

Gary, this may also be helpful http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/Wind_chillNot really. The Wiki also has information on Apparent and how it is calculated by Cumulus.

Re: Another question
Sorry guys I must be going about this the wrong way. I know how the wind chill and apparent temp. are calculated but my question is why are the temp and wind chill the same when the temp is 24 degrees and a wind of 5 to 8 mph there should be a wind chill but cumulus shows them the same???
I have the box checked for cumulus to calculate wind chill.

Re: Another question
Sorry, I hadn't realized that you had indicated that your wind speed was greater then the minimum for calculating Wind Chill that is why I referred to the Wiki link. If the wind is above and the temp below the threshold then it should calculate the wind chill. I presume the wind threshold is the average wind not the gust. Steve may have a further comment on this.
Surprisingly, I checked Jacksonville FL on WU and of the 34 stations listed there every one had the same temp and wind chill (wind chill rounded to whole degree) but then there was virtually no wind at the time. Looks like you guys are getting a cool spell there!

Yeah it has been a little on the chilly side lows in the 30,s almost every night for the next couple of days.PaulMy wrote:Sorry, I hadn't realized that you had indicated that your wind speed was greater then the minimum for calculating Wind Chill that is why I referred to the Wiki link. I have my station in my front yard and it is only about 6 1/2 feet off the ground and because I live in a trailer park wind can be a little tricky.
I have a small patch of woods behind my house with several 30 ft plus pine trees and a few other trees as well. So I know my wind readings are not going to be what they should be. But there is no way I putting the unit on my roof or mounted to a pole on my roof I am a little to old to be climbing ladders and with a bad hip no way.
Thanks for the reply perhaps Steve can help.

Re: Another question
Are you sure that your average wind speed was above 3 mph?
Could you show me a screen shot of the Cumulus main screen at a time when you think you should be getting a wind chill but you're not?

Re: Another question
Sorry but I did not get a screen shot and I have no idea as to when conditions will repeat so I can take one.
It is not a big deal though I was just curious that's all. There is a chance that the weather will be cold enough because over the next week temps will be down in the 30's but I do not know if there will be a significant wind to generate a wind chill.
But to be honest with you the WS2090 I have I can set to show dew point wind chill or temperature, and if I set it to show wind chill I have noticed there is no difference from the regular temperature. So I am not sure if this is confusing cumulus or not I now have my unit set to display temperature and have the calculate wind chill box checked in the configuration.
I will keep a eye on it and let you know.
This is one of those things that makes you think is something rotten in china or is it just a overactive imagination.
